Students are learning about the rise of communist China. Each student is creating a timeline that illustrates important events that led to the rise of communist China. This project is due next Tuesday!
Students are doing independent research on ancient Chinese dynasties. Students are working in groups to develop a short presentation about a specific dynasty. Students will present to the class on Friday.
Students are continuing to prepare for their debates that will happen on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Debate topics include some of the following: Stem Cell research, Therapeutic cloning, GMO's, and Crispr- Designer Babies. Students now know what side of the argument they are on, as well as their role during the debate. Students are now focusing on developing strong arguments as well as working on how to deliver those arguments during a debate. Students are engaging in practice debates in class as a way to prepare. This week students are gearing up for their debate on cloning. Students are learning the skills it takes to present an argument successfully in a debate setting. Students are learning to develop both a pro and con list, how to present facts and how to introduce the main points of their arguments. Students have gone over important debate vocabulary and terminology and have been practicing their debate skills by doing smaller debate topics during class.
Students are also playing "Name That Baby"! All the baby pictures that were turned in are on the bulletin board. Student are making their guesses as we speak! SO MUCH CUTENESS. This provides a nice laugh and break from all the debate work we have been doing! Thank you parents for all the pictures. Students are learning about the colonization of India by the Portuguese, Dutch, French, and British, the alliance of a military/economic system, and the rise of the Indian independence movement. Students have been working on their Avatar Project which has them explore an Indian avatar, write a paragraph about that avatar and then create an art piece to represent that avatar. Their final avatar project is due this Friday, November 30th. 7th Grade is continuing their studies on India. They are taking notes and beginning their research on the colonization of India and looking at aspects such as political and social influences. Students are also exploring Hindu avatars.
They are currently working on a worldly geography packet that should be finished by Friday. Students have been learning about India and taking notes. For homework, students were given an India map worksheet to label (countries and capitals) and color that will be due on Thursday. Students will have a quiz on the country names and capitals on Thursday.
We are wrapping up our studies of the Middle East with a test on Thursday. We are then beginning our unit on India! This unit includes a bit of investigation into the ancient history of India, the rise of Hinduism, and the modern Indian economic giant.
There will be a test next week... probably at the end of the week ( the exact date is still to be determined)
Students will receive advance notice and have a review session. 7th graders are wrapping up the unit on Islam with readings on women advocating for freedom of choice in cultural expression. Students are completing extensive notes on the historical tensions between East and West, including the history of the Crusades and the Silk Road, leading to the Age of Exploration. We are finishing up our "Women and the Veil" projects. Students should have a finished art component to present to the class for Wednesday. The written component of this project, a 1 1/2- 4 page long story, is due on Thursday. Students will present their work, and we will wrap up the unit with an examination of women advocating for religious freedom of choice - including those who choose to wear the veil.
